Situated in northeast Zimbabwe on the banks of the Zambezi River, Chirundu is one of three Border Posts between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The Zambezi River, Tiger fishing, (several Tiger Fishing safari companies operate), elephants and Baobab trees would sum up the attractions of this town.
Getting there: The tarred, main Harare / Kariba road continues past Makuti through the Hurungwe Safari Area to Chirundu. Motorists beware; expect to encounter wild animals on the road in the Safari Area. The wilderness belongs to them.
Coach and Bus Services: For transport to Zambia, enquire at the Harare Road Port, on the corner of Robert Mugabe Road / 4th Street. Tel. 263-4-702828.
General Interest: Until 1939 when the first bridge was built the only means of crossing was by a perilous dugout dash between the two banks! Dugouts, still very much in evidence are used by local fisherman. |
