Gonarezhou National Park is part of the newly formed Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, and is located on the southern borders of Zimbabwe. This massive Pan African Park includes Zimbabwe's Gonarezhou National Park, South Africa's well-known Kruger National Park and Mozambique's Gaza Park. Dedicated by the three nations to conservation, biodiversity and economic development of the surrounding areas this mega-park will provide world-class eco-tourism for the visitor.

Zimbabwe's park in itself is a gem with a wide variety of wild animals, a feast of birdlife and magnificent red sandstone cliffs formed through eons of erosion.

Lion, leopard, and cheetah (including the rare king cheetah) hunt for buffalo, zebra, giraffe and other large antelope. The rare nyala and smaller suni are highlights of some of the park's smaller antelopes.

The Save, Rundi and Mwenezi Rivers cut their course through this diverse and beautiful part of Zimbabwe forming pools and natural oases from which hundreds of species of birds, wildlife and fish gather to feed and drink.

Places of interest to visit are the Chibilila and Duguvi Falls (seasonal), the amazing sandstone cliffs at Chilojo, Mwatomba Pools, Makonde Pools, the natural water pans at Chindhlambai and Tembahata - a birding paradise and the viewing points at Guluji and Chamuchanzi.

Endemic to the park are both malaria and bilharzias - please take the necessary precautions.

Gonarezhou experiences mild and dry winters and hot, wet summers, sometimes in excess of 40 degrees Celsius. During the rainy season (November to April), access to some parts of the park is restricted. Visitors should consult the park's offices before undertaking game drives. The warden's office is located at Mabalauta.

Accommodation in the park consists of mainly camp sites, however there are lodges at Mabalauta. All accommodation is self-catering and it is advised to bring all your supplies, as there are no shops within the park.

Getting to the park is very involved and it is recommended that you obtain detailed instructions from National Parks Head Office in Harare.

There are a number of private safari lodges located near the park offering luxurious packages.
